Q: How can I incorporate streaming video files in my courses?
A: Streaming video can be used to enhance course material. Examples include:

  • audio recordings of lectures, talks, interviews, or presentations
  • PowerPoint presentations with narration
  • excerpts from videotaped programs
  • photographs or images with narration

---
Q: Is this replacing IPTV? What happened to my existing videos?
A: Yes, this replaces both IPTV and Adelphi's Real Streaming Server. However, as Adelphi migrates to QuickTime, the existing formats will remain functional. As of [insert date here] all new material will be posted on the QuickTime server only. We will give the faculty advance notice of when IPTV and Real Streaming Server will no longer be available. [insert tentative timeline here].

Q: What is the quality of QuickTime files like?
A: Your Internet connection determines the quality of streamed audio and video files. Broadband access available on campus and at other locations provides the highest quality.

However, if you use a slower Internet connection or dial-up, both audio and visual quality will not be optimum. Audio quality will approximate FM radio and you will not be able to get full-screen video.

---
Q: What is involved in the production process?
A: The Faculty Center for Professional Excellence (FCPE) will assist you through every step of converting your material to a QuickTime streaming file.

---
Q: How do I direct my students to the file I want them to see?
A: Your students will have two options to access your material. You will be assigned a folder. You can request to subdivide it for each of your classes. You can give your students the URL of your folder which will look like this:

http://streamtest.adelphi.edu/index.php?
movdir,Academic_Material/College_of_Arts_and_Sciences/
LastName_Firstname/coursenumber/

Your students will also be able to access the file at media.adelphi.edu (note: don't add "www" in front) and search for it using your name or the course number.
---
Q: Who should I call if I have a problem or question?
A: If you experience any problems using QuickTime, please contact Customer Services at customerservices@adelphi.edu or call 516.877.3340. Hours vary by semester; go to infotech.adelphi.edu for an updated listing.

If you have a technical question about posting your information, please contact the FCPE at 516.877.4220 or via email at fcpe@adelphi.edu.
