Q: What is "streaming video"?
A: Streaming is a method for delivering multimedia content over the internet. Instead of downloading large files to your computer, the file remains on the Adelphi server, and is distributed on demand.

Q: What do I need to play streaming files?
A: You need to install Apple's QuickTime player which is free for non-commercial use. You can obtain the latest version at the QuickTime Web site.
While the files can be played over a 56K modem, broadband is recommended for enhanced playing.

Q: My professor told me to view a video here. How do I find it?
A: Your professor may provide you with a link to the directory. If not, you can use the search option. Go to Search (at left). In the box for keyword, enter your professor's last name or your course number. Select Directories only from the Look in drop-down menu. Click Search. All folders assigned to your professor will be displayed. Open the folder to view the videos stored there.

Q: My network connection meets the minimum requirements but I cannot play the video or it plays and stops.
A: You may need to change the connection speed setting for QuickTime:
1. Go to Edit, then Preferences, and select QuickTime Preferences.
2. Click the Streaming tab and set Streaming Speed to the appropriate choice, depending on your internet connection. If you do not know the connection speed, leave it set to Automatic.
3. Close the control panel and then try replaying the file.

Q. What is the different between "in browser" and "in player?" Can I enlarge the video to a full screen?
A: "In browser" will open up the video inside of your web-browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.
"In player" opens up a QuickTime player window. "In browser" does not allow you to resize the movie; however if you use Quicktime player, you will be able to enlarge the movie to approximately full-screen size.

Q: Who should I call if I have a problem or question?
A: If you experience any problems using QuickTime, please contact Customer Services at customerservices@adelphi.edu or call 516.877.3340. Hours vary by semester; go to infotech.adelphi.edu for an updated listing.
